(1) To operate brake unit GC-10-A, push in or release the brake lever enough to
allow the wire to come off the reel at the correct speed. (See Figure 24.)
(2) The pressure on the brake can be made to stay the same without having to hold
the brake handle in. To adjust the pressure, screw the wingnut on the brake in or out until the
reel turns at the desired speed. (See Figure 25.)
(3) On brake unit GC-10, the pressure is increased by turning the star wheel
clockwise and decreased by turning the star wheel counterclockwise. (See Figure 26.)
5. Axle. During operation, the axle rotates on bronze bearings to either pay out or recover
wire. Two stops are fitted near the center of the divided axle supplied with reel unit RL-31-E.
These stops permit independent handling of two small reels at the same time. The stops,
when turned one-quarter turn, prevent the reels from rubbing against each other during
operation. (See Figure 27.) The axles of all units are interchangeable.
PART B - INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
a. The components of each reel unit are packed in a nailed, wooden box. The
approximate size, weight, and volume of each packed unit are as follows: height, 41 inches;
width, 27.5 inches; depth, 11 inches; weight, 133 pounds; and volume, 7 cubic feet.
