b. To tune the radio set, momentarily press the PTT switch on the
handset connected to the RT-1209. Tuning tone will be heard in the
earpiece of handset, and the green XMT light will come on. After 6
seconds, the green XMT light will go out, the yellow TUN light will
also go out, and the green RDY light will remain on. The radio set
is now ready for voice or CW mode of operation.
c. The modes of operation are:
Connect the handset to
either the top audio connector on the receiver-transmitter RT-1209 or
the top audio connector on amplifier-converter AM-6879.
Set MODE
selector switch to V-RT.
(2) Radio silence.
When you are to operate in radio silence,
because of an operational necessity, simply turn the MODE selector
switch to V-RCV.
This disables the modulator portion of amplifier-
converter AM-6879 and antenna coupler CU-2064 to prevent accidental
transmission.

You can now receive voice signals, but you are unable
to transmit.
16. OPERATOR'S TROUBLESHOOTING. Now that you have learned the proper
start-up procedures for voice operation, you are ready to look at the
operator's troubleshooting table.
When an abnormal condition or
result is observed during start-up
procedures, turn to
the
troubleshooting procedures (Table 4) and determine if there is a
