Overview. This lesson now examines the communications systems found in a heavy force
battalion (armored and mechanized infantry) and a light force battalion (infantry, light infantry, airborne,
and air assault).

Heavy Battalion Signal System.
a. The communications platoon (Figure 2-8) is organic to the heavy battalion's headquarters and
headquarters company (HHC). The signal officer is assisted by a battalion communication chief, a radio
team chief, two combat signaler team chiefs, two radio teletypewriter operators, two radio operators, and
two switchboard operators.
