Sometimes it is necessary to print negatives (in certain areas) that
are either imperfect or unequal in exposure. Some parts may be considerably
denser or lighter than the rest of the negative. The process of balancing
the lighting to all of these areas is called dodging. If a test print from
a negative indicates that a portion of the print is overexposed, it is
necessary to dodge. Dodge ONLY those portions of the negative that show
overexposure.
