Maintaining screen direction.
a. It is not difficult to maintain screen direction when you are shooting
controlled action that behaves in a predictable manner.
A simple method for
establishing and maintaining screen direction is to use an imaginary line drawn
through the direction of travel.
In the case of the parade (fig 2-7), the
imaginary line is from the rear through the front of the car, or, left to right.
If all your shooting is done from the same side of the imaginary line there is no
problem. All your shots will have left to right screen direction.
b. Sometimes it is necessary to take up a camera position on the opposite
side of the action.
And sometimes it is necessary to have your subject change
direction.
In either case, you must let your audience know that the change is
taking place.
