b. Back lighting has different results.
The back light will silhouette
sides of the subject (fig 4-6).
This can cause a high contrast between
highlights and shadows.
(1) A back light outlines all or part of the subject.
This rim of light
appears to separate the subject from the background.
(2) It can illuminate areas that are in shadows, although that is not
the purpose.
(3) If the back light is too high the result will be stilted.
(4) Rimming caused by a back light should be used appropriately (fig 4-
7).
