Lesson 4
PERFORM OPERATOR'S PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
CHECKS AND SERVICES ON RADIO SET AN/GRC-193
OBJECTIVE
After completing this lesson, you will be able to perform operator's
preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on radio set
AN/GRC-193.
19. INTRODUCTION.
Operator's preventive maintenance checks and
services are the systematic care, servicing, and inspection of
equipment by the operator to prevent the occurrence of trouble
(faults) or to detect minor faults before they develop into major
faults that cause your radio set to become inoperative.
By doing
PMCS, we ensure equipment serviceability and reduce downtime.
The
components of the radio set are designed to require a minimum of
maintenance.
Routine periodic checks of equipment and cable
conditions should be performed, and the equipment should be cleaned
periodically.
20. DAILY PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS AND SERVICES.
First, let's
look at the daily maintenance routine for the AN/GRC-193.
This
routine must be followed daily if the radio is used daily or at least
once a week when the equipment is not used on a daily basis.
Make
sure power is off before performing the following cleaning and
inspection procedure.
b. Check to ensure that all units are securely clamped to mounts.
c. Check to ensure that all units and cables are undamaged.
e. Clean the external surfaces of all units.
(1) Remove grease, fungus, and ground-in dirt from the
equipment covers.
Use a cloth dampened (but not wet) with
trichlorotrifluoroethane.
(2) Remove dust or dirt from plugs and jacks with a brush.
CAUTION
DO NOT PRESS ON THE GLASS OF THE METER ON THE AM-
6545 OR THE RT-1209 WHEN CLEANING.
IF GLASS OR
SEAL IS BROKEN, THE COMPONENT MAKES THE SET
NONMISSION CAPABLE.
(3) Clean the front panels, meter, and control knobs. Use a soft,
clean cloth. Mild soap may be used for more effective cleaning.
