Synchronization is the arrangement of battlefield activities in time, space, and
purpose to produce maximum relative combat power at the decisive point (page 1-
4, para 1d(l)).
Depth is the extension of operations in space, time, and resources. Through the
use of depth, a commander obtains the necessary space to maneuver effectively;
the necessary time to plan, arrange, and execute operations; and the necessary
resources to win (page 1-3, para 1c(l)).
The offensive is seizing, retaining, and exploiting the initiative (page 1-12, para
ALO is not oriented toward a mass-on-mass clash (page 1-12, para 5b).
Stage 2: Establishing conditions for decisive operations.
The second stage is using all means necessary to set the conditions for the best
use of Army capabilities to achieve decisive results (page 1-13, para 5d(2)).
