(1) The headquarters, headquarters and operations company
(HHOC) provides command and control of all elements within the
battalion.
Unlike the HHSC discussed previously, the HHOC only
provides administrative support for the battalion. In addition, the
QUICKFIX flight platoon is organic to the MI battalion's HHOC in an
in heavy, airborne, and light divisions.
(2) The C&J company provides COMINT collection and line-of-
emitters for the division.
Unlike the C&J company for a heavy
division, the heavy jamming equipment is not assigned to the MI
battalion of an airborne or air assault division due to the weight of
these systems and the nature of airborne and air assault deployments.
Heavy very high frequency (VHF) jamming teams are assigned to the MI
battalion of the airborne corps to augment airborne and air assault
are deployed in the theater of operations.
(3) The
I&S
company
provides
ground
surveillance,
interrogation, and CI support.
In an airborne division, the I&S
company also contains remotely monitored battlefield sensor system
assets, which provide additional ground surveillance capabilities for
the division.
(4) The service support company (SSC) provides maintenance
(vehicular and communications-electronics), food service, and signal
support to the battalion.
(5) The LRSD, like its counterpart in the heavy division, is
organized to collect information by HUMINT means.
c. MI battalion (light division).
The battalion is organized
with the same philosophy as its parent light division. It is easy to
transport and relies on additional assets from higher echelons for
support during combat operations.
The battalion receives corps
augmentation for ground-based jamming and electronic intelligence
support.
When the division is employed in a low intensity conflict
environment, additional CI and EPW interrogation augmentation is
provided.
There are about 295 soldiers assigned to this battalion.
The battalion has three companies, as shown at Figure 1-3.
(1) The HHSC provides command and control for all elements
