g. The MSRT allows the user to dial up and communicate with any discretely-addressed MSE
subscriber. The mobile subscriber accesses the network via the radio access unit (RAU) deployed and
operated by the signal battalion. RAUs are located in the vicinity of the node centers and throughout the
division area of operations to provide battlefield coverage. A RAU can provide a 15-kilometer radius
area coverage (planning range) in the area of operations. Figure 2-27, page 2-23, illustrates how mobile
subscribers access the MSE network. The MSE network depicted in Figure 2-27 uses four node centers
(NC). RAUs, located at various locations throughout the network, provide access to mobile subscribers.
