2. Optical Flare can be greatly reduced or eliminated by the use of a lens
hood or a lens shade.
A lens hood or lens shade is a tubular attachment
that is mounted on the lens. It shades the surface of the lens by blocking
unwanted light rays as shown in Figure 1-17. It is good practice to have a
lens hood or lens shade mounted to your lens at all times.
