Assembly of Launcher and Antenna. Before the antenna is raised the mast assembly
must be positioned and assembled. The steps in this procedure are covered below. While
reading this procedure, open and refer to the Fold-Outs specified with each step.
STEP 1:
Position the mast assembly so that its front faces into the wind. View B of
Fold-Out 3 identifies the front edge of the base plate.
STEP 2:
Loosen the canvas straps that hold the binding wires and unsnap the binding
wires from the top of the mast assembly. Refer to View A of Fold-Out 3.
STEP 3:
Raise the top section of the launcher approximately 3/4-inch. This will allow
the loading catch on the base plate to secure it in this higher position. Remove
the six mast sections stored around the launcher by raising them one by one
and lifting the lower end clear of its cap on the base plate. Refer to View B in
Fold-Out 3 and locate the parts mentioned in this step. The center mast
section remains stored in the erection mechanism.
STEP 4:
Swing aside the center mast section retaining clip on the top of the launcher.
Locate the retaining clip in View B of Fold-Out 3.
STEP 5:
Set the two brake control levers so that the arrows point upwards. If either of
the brake rings in the erection mechanism binds, release it by hand. The
location of the brake control levers is illustrated in View B of Fold-Out 3.
STEP 6:
Push the center mast section upward until it protrudes approximately 18
inches above the top plate of the launcher. Close Fold-Out 3 and open Fold-
Out 4 for the location of the parts referred to in step 7.
