The core of the head is wound with a number of turns of wire, but the number
of turns will depend on the purpose for which the head is designed.
a. The manner in which the core is wound will be dictated by the head use.
There are two winding designs, one winding on each side of the gap.
b. In most of the newer designs the two windings will be terminated
externally, thus they may be connected in a parallel or series arrangement as
desired.
c. The core and winding are enclosed in a protective metal housing to prevent
the winding from picking up hum emanating from motors, transformers, etc.
