a. Shelters. Equipment shelters provide a secure mobile capsule
for multichannel radio assemblages.
They can provide insulation,
weatherproofing, and air conditioning to protect the electronic
components.
Their design includes equipment racks, electrical and
signal wiring, and storage space. Constructed of aluminum, they are
lightweight for transportation by land or air.

(1) Electrical equipment shelter S-250. The S-250 is a medium
sized shelter capable of storing loads up to 1 1/4 tons. It houses
equipment generally used at the division or corps levels.
The
shelter measures 85" X 79" and 70" in height (exterior), and weighs

transportable by air.
Figure 1-36 shows the S-250 mounted on a
mobile multipurpose vehicle with a power unit trailer.
(2) Electrical equipment shelter S-280.
The S-280 is a large
shelter capable of transporting 2 1/2 tons of equipment. It stores
the larger assemblages found at the corps level. The shelter is 146"
X 87" and 83" in height (exterior), and weighs 1200 pounds.
It
requires a 2 1/2 ton truck as a prime mover on the ground.
Due to
its size, the S-280 has limited air transport capability.
