combine 12-voice channels into groups, and groups into supergroups, to form
the baseband. A separate patching panel, usually located within or near the
multiplexing terminals, provides group routing and baseband patching
capability between the multiplexing terminals and the wideband radio sets.
The multiplexing terminal and the wideband radio set are normally installed
near each other to reduce baseband signal loss. Because the baseband range
extends into the low radio frequencies, flexible coaxial cables and
connectors which make up the RF patching panels are used here instead of the
more common patch cords and jacks.
These patches seldom need be changed
during normal operation.
