Learning Event 1: TACTICAL AND STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION INTERFACE
Military communication systems are constantly undergoing changes to
accommodate the changing patterns of communication.
Every change brings
about the need for adopting or connecting new and old communication
systems, Economics makes it necessary to continue the usage of existing
systems and to replace them as the improved systems become available.
Every advance brings about a variation in signal characteristics and
compatibility of equipment items.
Eventually all communication systems,
be they tactical or strategic, will use the same standards, making
interconnection a relatively simple matter. At the present time, however,
tactical systems now in use are not directly compatible with strategic
systems. Communications Technical Control Center AN/MSQ-73 is an interim
item of equipment whose primary function is to provide an interface
between present-day tactical communication systems and the expanding and
improving strategic communication systems, as well as with new tactical
communication systems. It's secondary function is to control and test the
circuits passing through the van.
