LESSON
LEARNING THE COMPONENTS AND USE OF REEL UNIT RL-31-(*)/G
Critical Tasks:
113-588-1060
113-588-3005
OVERVIEW
LESSON DESCRIPTION:
In this lesson you will learn the components of reel unit RL-31-(*)/G and what they are used
for. You will learn how to install, operate, and maintain this equipment.
TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
ACTION:
As a member of a two-person team, the student will install, operate, and
perform unit level maintenance on reel unit RL-31-(*)/G.
CONDITIONS:
If the equipment is available, the team is given a complete reel unit RL-31-
(*)/G, RC-435 with CX-4566/G cable, gloves, TC 24-20, TM 11-3895-202-
13, and a training area.
STANDARD:
If the equipment is available, the standard is met when reel unit RL-31-
(*)G is set up for ground operation and 250 feet of field cable CX-4566/G
is paid out and recovered within 30 minutes.
WARNING
When using the RL-31-(*)/G, keep your face away from the hand crank. The
hand crank may slip off and injure you.
Two people are required to lift a reel containing field cable CX-4566/G.
Do not lay, place, or throw field wire on or near power lines or
transformers. Dangerous high voltages exist at these structures. Contact
between field wire and power lines may result in severe shock or death.
Ensure there is adequate ventilation when using cleaning solvent.
INTRODUCTION
As a wire system installer, you will be called upon to install telephone lines and cable systems
for different types of missions. The installation of the line is easier if you have a reel unit RL-
31-(*)/G. The RL-31-(*) can be used for telephone cable WD-1( )/TT or WF-16/U and field
cable CX-4566( )/G. If you know how the unit is installed and how to safely operate it, you can
make the job easier. Of course, no job is complete until you
