1. Equipment characteristics, capabilities, and features. Reel unit RL-31-(*) is a lightweight
unit designed to pay out and recover field wire on reels DR-4, DR-5, DR-7, DR-15-B, and RL-
159/U. Reel unit RL-31-(*) is intended primarily for installation in a vehicle. (See Figure 1.)
The unit will accommodate any of the following:
Two reels DR-4, each containing 1 1/3 miles of wire WD-1/TT.
One reel DR-5, containing 2 1/2 miles of wire WD-1/TT.
One reel DR-7, containing 6 miles of wire W D-1/TT.
Two reels RL-159/U, containing 1 mile of wire WD-1/TT.
