a. The Army EAC communications system is called the theater communications system
(Army) or TCS(A). The TCS(A) provides common-user service on a geographic basis. It
connects the theater army commander with his subordinate commands within the theater of
operations and provides connectivity/access to the corps MSE network. The TCS(A) consists of
an area network and designated command links. A theater area network is illustrated in Figure
1-44. The large triangles in Figure 1-44 represent theater area nodes, each of which incorporate
switching, transmission, multiplex, and technical control service. The hexagons and small
triangles represent extension nodes that support headquarters and other units. As indicated in the
diagram, the TCS(A) will interconnect to least two corps nodes within
