2. DISCOM Signal Support - Light Division using ATACS.
a. The DISCOM has an HHC/MMC, three FSBs, an MSB, and a transportation aircraft
maintenance company. The light division DISCOM has the same number of internal nets as the heavy
division. Some of these nets are shown in the following illustrations. Figure 2-19 shows the DISCOM
command/operations net (FM). Voice communications may be difficult to establish and maintain with
some units, since many of them are widely dispersed. When a unit gets out of range, it may have to
relay messages through another unit. Note some of the stations in this net. The operations officer in the
forward area support coordination office (FASCO) is responsive to both the DISCOM operations and
the supported brigade.
