External Communications Nets. These nets provide the communication links for an air defense
battalion to receive and transmit information to and from the division and other units it supports. The
communication nets can be categorized into two types: single channel-radio nets and the multichannel
radio system.
a. Single-channel radio nets (Figure 2-11, page 2-10).
(1) The division command/operations net (FM voice) is used by the division commander and
G3 for tactical command and control of the division. The air defense battalion TOC is a station to
receive command taskings, direction, and information.
(2) The division intelligence net (FM voice) is used to receive and disseminate intelligence
information. The air defense battalion receives intelligence information and passes it to the division G2
and other elements.
(3) The division TOC net (AM voice) is used as a backup to the division command and
operations and division intelligence FM nets.
(4) The division general purpose radio teletypewriter (RATT) net provides the division with
a means of transmitting and receiving hard copy messages between headquarters elements.
