The Interdepartment Radio
Advisory
Committee
supports
the
Director
of
the
Office
of
Telecommunications Policy in managing government use of the RF
spectrum.
Only the Office of Telecommunications Policy and the
Federal Communications Commission have basic authority to authorize
frequency assignments in the United States and Possessions.
Note
that the function of the Department of Commerce's Office of
Telecommunications is, in this case, to review the government
frequency assignment applications to insure adequate justification,
compliance with policy and regulations, technical appropriateness and
probability of major problems, and to determine whether there is a
conflict
with
radio
authorizations
of
non-members
of
the
Interdepartment
Radio
Advisory
Committee.
The
Office
of
Telecommunications Policy and the Federal Communications Commission
assist and advise the Department of State in negotiations regarding
international telecommunications policy which impacts on United
States national policy.
