(d) Provides the commander with
a capability to move and mass his combat power
in a manner that facilitates the destruction of the
threat before he can mass.
(2) The
division
commander's
concept of operation can
become one
synchronized operation when:
assets provide the critical and timely
information on the enemy and terrain required
to either confirm or modify his concept.
(b) Engineers assist maneuver
units to either rapidly move on the battlefield or
channelize enemy forces into predetermined
areas where friendly units may gain a positional
advantage.

(d) Fire support assets are prioritized to reinforce and complement the organic fires of the
maneuver units to exploit positional advantage.
(e) Division CSS is prioritized to ensure the sustainment of all units before, during, and
after the battle.
h. NBC. Although NBC is not a battlefield operating system, it is a condition of warfare. The
division must be prepared to conduct continuous combat operations in the environment created by the
presence of any nuclear, biological, or chemical capable system before, during, or after employment
(Figure 3-10). Before the enemy's use of nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, the division reduces
its vulnerability by weighing the risk of either massing, thus presenting a target to the enemy, or
dispersing and being defeated in detail by conventional forces. Additionally, mitigation techniques
should be used to aid in survivability. During nuclear and chemical weapon employment, considerations
are given to isolate the division close operations area and destroy, divert, or halt movement of enemy
reinforcement. NBC weapons can defeat and disrupt follow-on echelons and create offensive
opportunities.
2. Summary. In this lesson, you learned how the battlefield operating systems (BOS) are synchronized.
Commanders synchronize BOS activities in time, space, and purpose to produce maximum relative
combat power at the decisive point. Synchronized combat activities allow maneuver forces to gain a
position of advantage, while combat support and combat service support units bolster the effort.
