d. The concept of AirLand Operations (ALO) is evolving to replace ALB. ALO focuses on a
nonlinear battlefield and is oriented on activities rather than terrain. ALO stresses a joint and
combined/coalition force. Operations are conducted through four stages:
(1) Stage 1: preparation through intelligence.
(2) Stage 2: battlefield conditioning.
(3) Stage 3: conducting decisive operations.
(4) Stage 4: preparation for follow-on or new engagements.
