(a) SED is the creation of electromagnetic emissions to
represent friendly, notional, or actual capabilities to mislead
hostile forces.
(b) MED is the alteration of friendly electromagnetic
emission characteristics, patterns, or procedures to eliminate
revealing, or convey misleading, telltale indicators which hostile
forces may use.
(c) IED is the introduction of radiations into unfriendly
channels that imitate hostile emissions.
c. ECCM is that part of EW which involves actions taken to retain
effective friendly use of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The
components of ECCM are anti-ESM and anti-ECM actions and activities.
4. Summary. In this lesson, you learned the organization and mission
of the MI battalion.
The MI battalion's mission is to provide
dedicated intelligence and electronic warfare (IEW) support to the
division.
The MI battalion is organic to the division, operates
under the command and direction of the division commander and his
staff, and responds to missions assigned by the division G2 and G3
and their staffs. The signal officer in a MI battalion directs and
supervises the battalion's signal elements while concurrently serving
as a member of the battalion staff.
