(3) The intelligence and surveillance (I&S) company provides
ground surveillance, enemy prisoner of war (EPW) interrogation, and
limited counterintelligence (CI) capabilities for the division.
(ESM) to the division.
The company is capable of collecting
and has a primary responsibility for direction finding (DF).
(5) The long range surveillance detachment (LRSD) provides for
within the division's area of operations and interest (for planning
purposes, to a depth of 50 kilometers beyond the forward line of own
troops (FLOT)). The LRSD observes and reports on enemy dispositions,
facilities, activities, and terrain and weather conditions.
Its
control cell operates from an operations center located at the
division main command post (CP) to provide for immediate interface
with the division G2.
(6) The
QUICKFIX
flight
platoon
provides
aerial
COMINT
collection, direction finding, and jamming support to the division.
Assigned to the combat aviation brigade, the platoon is deployed
OPCON to the MI battalion as a general support resource to complement
ground based systems capabilities.
b. MI battalion (airborne or air assault division).
The MI
companies, as shown at Figure 1-2.
There are approximately 360
soldiers assigned to the MI battalion.
