Go to the telephone pole and determine if you must use gaff's to climb or you are able to use the steps
that are usually installed on the pole. If you can use the steps, then put on your body and safety belt,
Figures 14 and 15, attach your tools and materials and climb the pole. Remember to look where you are
going so that you will have no surprises as you climb.
When you reach the working area, safety on and assume a good working position on either the left or
right depending on where the ready access terminal is located. If there is none installed then you will
have to install a "J" hook. You would then put a Drop wire clamp on the "J" hook. Pull the wire up to
you and be sure to pull it as tight as you can but with some slack. Put the Drop wire clamp on the drop
wire with the flat side of the Drop wire clamp upwards. Slide the holding part onto the clamp and wire.
This will secure the wire and you will not need to continuously hold it. Be sure that the wire is not
resting on the "J" hook. Your work should now look the same as Figure 42.
