b. AN/TTC-38. Set the RING VOLUME control to midpoint. Set the MODE SELECT switch
to 4-WIRE AC/CB. Take handset off-hook. Listen for the dial tone. Press 9 and the tone should stop.
Now press keys 5, 1, and C. Hang up the handset. Your phone should ring. Adjust the RING
VOLUME control if necessary. Go off-hook and listen for the dial tone. When you get the dial tone,
hang up the phone and you are ready for operation.

Four-wire extension service.
a. One or more extension sets may be connected as shown in Figure 1-21. All XMITs are
connected together and all RCVs are connected together. This applies to all extensions connected to the
main line of the telephone.
b. Make sure the MODE SELECT switch on each telephone set is set to the same position. Fill
in each station card with the assigned number. Make sure each telephone set has batteries if 4-WIRE
DC/LB or 4-WIRE AC/LB modes are used. Remember, only the last extension to go on-hook will
disconnect the line.
35. Now get a telephone set TA-838( )/TT, some WF-16/U or enough WD-1( )/TT, and install the
telephone set to be used in a point-to-point operation.
