Communications security (COMSEC) is the protection resulting from all measures
designed to deny unauthorized persons valuable information which might be derived from the
possession and study of telecommunications, or to mislead unauthorized persons in the
interpretations of the results of each study. The application of COMSEC procedures rely heavily
on the operator's attitude of alertness and attention to details.
2-1. Every radio transmission offers information to a listening enemy. The alert communicator
assumes the enemy is listening every time he makes a radio transmission. Through attention to
detail, COMSEC makes it possible to conceal the location, composition, movement, and plans of
our armed forces.
