e. The corps MSE network can serve about 10,000 subscribers. These would consist of
over 8,000 static subscribers, and up to 1,900 mobile subscribers, covering an area of 37,500
square kilometers.
f. As the corps commander maneuvers his combat units, the MSE network is deployed
to support these units. The direction of maneuver and the location of the units dictates the
placement of the nodes. As the corps commander's concept of maneuver evolves, node centers
and extension nodes are deployed to support this concept. As the corps battlefield requires less
requires more support, or held in reserve to meet future requirements.
g. Figure 1-14 shows the deployment and redeployment of corps area nodes. Nodes 41
and 42 are being deployed to meet communications requirements forward of previously
established nodes. Nodes 1 and 2 are being redeployed forward, due to decreased
communications requirements in the rear area. The extension nodes which were connected to the
area nodes affected by the move are not shown in the diagram. These extension nodes would
also be required to redeploy with the area nodes, or would be re-engineered to connect to another
area node if the headquarters or unit they were supporting did not move or relocate.
