h. The heart of the MSE network is the node center. A node center consists of one
AN/TTC-47 node switch (operations shelter and switching shelter); one NMF; four LOS
AN/TRC-190(V3) ultra high frequency (UHF) radio assemblages; two RAUs (one local and one
remote); one node support vehicle; two 10-kw diesel generators; and five 5-kw diesel generators.
i. Figure 1-15 illustrates a typical node center site configuration, depicting the general
placement of the equipment and their inter-connection with each other.
j. LENs and small extension nodes (SEN) extend from the node centers to provide units
and CPs with access to the network. Figure 1-16 illustrates the area communications system
access, a division and corps area network communications system, and the deployment of node
centers. Extending from the node center (NC) are the LENs and SENs which provide support
and access for units and CPs into the MSE network. Small CPs (such as a fire support battalion
CP) are supported by a SEN, which is connected to a minimum of one node center. large CPs
(such as a COSCOM CP) are supported by a LEN, which is connected to at least two node
centers.
