Learning Event 2:
IDENTIFY THE PROPER PROCEDURES TO PROCESS INCOMING MESSAGES.
1.
The primary job of an operator is to send and receive messages as
rapidly and accurately as possible.
To perform this job effectively, the
operator must also keep a record of messages sent and received.
DA Form
4158, Operator's Number Sheet (Figure 3-2), is provided for this purpose.
The operator's number sheet portion of DA Form 4158 is a record of messages
transmitted and received.
It tells the operator which number must be
assigned to the next message and how many messages have been received.
2.
A new number sheet is started each day at 0001 hours.
Messages are
received and recorded on the number sheet and noted by the DTG of the
message, time zone suffix, and the operator's initials.
A message is
entered on the operator's number sheet after it has been receipted.
The
operator strikes a slant through the message number in the received column,
enters the DTG of the message, and enters his initials. Figure 3-3 shows an
example of recording received messages.
