b. Supporting the five BFA are the BAS. These systems collect, process, and distribute
information required by commanders and staffs. The BAS specifically supporting each of the BFA are
the Maneuver Control System for maneuver control, the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System
for fire support, the Forward Area Air Defense Command, Control, and Intelligence System for air
defense, the Combat Service Support Control System for combat service support, and the All Source
Analysis System for intelligence and electronic warfare. The BAS, together with the people, equipment,
and/or methods organized to accomplish specified operations, represent and can be defined as
information systems. The following is a brief description of each of the BAS:
(1) The Maneuver Control System (MCS) is designed to assist the commander and his staff
by providing information on his own forces, enemy forces, and the characteristics of the battlefield. The
MCS provides battlefield information by collecting, processing, and displaying data generated within the
AirLand Battle combat environment. The MCS uses small transportable terminals to send combat data
to computers that automatically process and
