e. Components of AIA.
The four general components of the AIA are
baseline configuration, an objective configuration, a current target
configuration, and a plan. A representation of the components is shown in
Figure 1-1.

Components of AIA
(1) Baseline Configuration. This component represents "where we are
now." It is composed of operational information systems and procedures that
an organization relies on to do its daily tasks as part of its mission.
(2) Objective Configuration.
This component represents "where we
should be going." It is composed of broad statements or concepts concerning
the types of information necessary for the organization to accomplish its
mission.
(3) Current Target Configuration.
This component represents "where
we are going." It reflects those systems that are currently in some stage
of development to address previously perceived information needs.
(4) The Plan. This component describes the transition over time from
the baseline configuration (the "now") toward the objective configuration
(the "future"). Systems under development to satisfy information needs are
documented in the plan and are part of the current target configuration.
