(3) Installation.
At the installation level, the Director of
Information Management (DOIM) is the principal staff officer responsible for
information management.
The commander or director of the USAISC activity
support of the installation is dual-hatted as the installation DOIM and
assigned the responsibility for the IMA.
(4) Strategic environment. In this environment, the USAISC provides
information management and support.
(5) Sustaining base environment.
In this environment, information
management and support for all five IMA discipline are provided by USAISC.
(6) Theater/tactical environment.
Due to the mission of the
organizations in this environment, the format, flow, and distribution of
information
are
established
through
doctrinally-based
standardized
battlefield operating procedures that support the ALB.
The focus of
information management in this environment is to support the command and
control (C2) function. Commanders and functional users play a far greater
role in the management of information and the operation of information
systems and equipment than their counterparts in other IMA environment. The
extent of direct involvement by signal units is impacted by the operational
responsibilities of the functional users and the degree of integration of
the IMA disciplines into their functional areas.
For forward deployed EAC units,
information management support is provided by USAISC and augmented by
appropriate non-Army and host nation capabilities.
The theater signal
command (Army) TSC(A) provides IMA services and support of the theater army
commander and the theater army headquarters.
(8) Corps/division.
At the Army corps and division level, IMA
support is provided by those signal units organically assigned to those
organizations (e.g., at the corps, it is the corps signal brigade; at
division level, it is the division signal battalion).
3.
Battlefield Functional Areas - Review.
a. The five battlefield functional areas (BFA) are maneuver control,
service support.
They serve as a focal point for integrating battlefield
automated systems (BAS).
Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System; the Forward Area Air Defense
Command, Control, and Intelligence System; the All Source Analysis System;
Each BAS supports its
respective BFA by collecting, processing, and distributing information.
(ACUS), Combat Net Radio (CNR), and Army Data Distribution System (ADDS) is
the medium through which battlefield information is sent.
