You have now learned the fist two major components of the AN/GRC-193,
receiver-transmitter RT-1209 and amplifier-converter AM-6879.
The
next major component is the power amplifier AM-6545.
It is an
automatically tuned 100-or 400-watt HF amplifier used with an SSB
receiver-transmitter.
It amplifies the RF input signal from the RT
to 100 or 400 watt peak envelope power. Primary power is 26.5. V DC
coming from a vehicular electrical system or other DC power supply,
such as the PP-7333/GRC. It is distributed from the amplifier to the
receiver-transmitter, the amplifier-converter, and the coupler.
Fault indications are provided for self-testing the radio set, and a
meter is provided on the front panel for monitoring output power and
internal operating voltages. The switch for this meter is under the
top cover and is accessible only to the repair person. The unit is
cooled by a thermostatically controlled convection and forced air
system. The case is watertight in fresh or salt water up to a depth
of 2 feet. It has is own pressure relief valve, which will release
at 4 pounds per square inch (psi).
