(5) The LIGHT switch lights the FREQUENCY KHZ display when
pressed.
(6) The AUDIO connector (upper) is for the connection of the
handset for voice operation, CW key/handset or data input.
(7)The PTT switch is located on the handset. When pressed, it starts
the automatic fine tuning to selected frequency and keys the
transmitter for voice operation.
b. Having covered the first major component, the receiver-
transmitter RT-1209, you will now learn the amplifier-converter AM-
6879, which is the next major component of the AN/GRC-193.
The
amplifier-converter has two separate functions.
It contains an FSK
converter that converts received FSK signals to TTY signals to
operate the teletype.
During transmission, it converts the signals
generated by the teletype to FSK audio signals.
(1) The amplifier-converter also contains an audio amplifier
and a speaker to provide audio output signals received by the radio
set.
(2) All controls and indicators for the amplifier-converter are
on the front panel.
The connections for the RF signal, power, and
control cables are made on the back (Fig 3).
