As previously stated, the scope of this subcourse limits itself to
low and medium capacity multichannel systems.
The following
paragraphs describe typical low and medium configurations and their
operation. Refer to the appropriate figure to follow the signal flow
through the system.
f. Low Capacity TDM Multichannel Radio Systems. The low capacity
system generally uses radio set AN/GRC-103.
It combines the radio
set with multiplexer set TD-660 and other ancillary equipment to
provide 6-or 12-channel operation. The low capacity system provides
communications primarily at the division area.
Figure 1-20 shows a
block diagram of a low capacity multichannel radio system.

The telephone signal converter CV-1548 accepts inputs from a patch
panel, switchboard, field telephone, teletype, facsimile, or other
2-wire/4-wire VF equipment.
It provides signaling and hybrid
facilities for 2-way transmission over 12 channels.
The output of
the converter goes to the input of the multiplexer set TD-660 via
cable.
