Lesson 1/Learning Event 4
(4) Miscellaneous Patching Module.
In the VF primary patch bay, the
miscellaneous patching module provides jacks for patching circuits to test
signals, circuit termination impedances, monitoring speakers and test
instruments. Figure 1-11 shows the front panel of a typical miscellaneous
patching module for a VF primary patch bay.
(a) Test instrument jacks provide for circuit inputs to meters on a
terminated circuit and a bridging basis. Figure 1-10 shows a typical wiring
diagram for a metering jack.

Miscellaneous Patching Module - Meter Jacks
(b) The TERMINATING JACK is used when a circuit is removed from service
for testing, and the circuit under test is terminated in its characteristic
impedance.
The BRIDGING JACK is used when the measuring of a signal is
required without removing the circuit from service.
bridging jack does not alter the circuits characteristics.
(c) The miscellaneous patching module also provides test MULTIPLE jacks
which enable the connection of circuits with other circuits or test
equipment not directly wired to the module. These jacks are commonly called
"parallel" jacks.
