Lesson 1/Learning Event 4
(3) Interbay Trunk Module. Interbay trunks carry circuits between patch
bays of specific category, such as the VF primary patch bay and the quality
assurance test bay or the digital test bay.
They span distances between
bays beyond the reach of patch cords, which are generally limited to 6 feet
in length.
(a) The trunks terminate in one or more trunk modules as shown in figure
1-9, mounted in each bay. Patching from a circuit in one bay to a circuit
in another bay is done by patching from the circuit jack in one bay to a
jack in an interbay trunk module of the same bay, then from the
corresponding jack in an interbay trunk module of another bay, to the
circuit jack in that bay.
Each jack in the interbay trunk module has a
light above the jack that will illuminate when a plug is inserted. Figure
1-7 shows the circuit wiring of the jack and lamp set of an interbay trunk.
