INSTALL SUBSTATION PROTECTOR AND TELEPHONE DROP WIRE
TASK:
Install telephone substation.
CONDITIONS:
1.
PERFORMANCE. The student will be provided with a training area, preinstalled telephone pole
with ready access terminal and working cable pairs, local service request (DA Form 3938), safety hat,
ladder, drop wire, TE-21 kit, drop wire clamps, substation protector, ground wire, ground wire clamp,
pliers (long nosed), terminal wrench, linemans pliers, three 1 3/4 inch wood screws, flat tip screwdriver,
and an OJT supervisor monitor.
2.
PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED. The student will be given lesson material, pencil and paper.
STANDARDS: The student will correctly install a substation protector on the side of a building, connect
the ground wire to the protector and the other end to a cold water pipe, will install telephone drop wire
from the ready access terminal to the side of a building, connecting one end of the drop wire to the
binding posts IAW DA Form 3938, fasten the drop wire to the building using angle screw with knobs
and connect the other end of the drop wire to the substation protector within 1 hour.
