The installation of
the NVIS, slant wire, and dipole antennas is outlined in the following
subparagraphs.
(a) NVIS antenna installation.
(See Figure 14.) To erect the NVIS
antenna, proceed as follows:
VERIFY THAT THE POWER IS PROPERLY TURNED OFF IN THE FOLLOWING STEP.
OTHERWISE, ELECTRICAL VOLTAGES WILL CAUSE BURNS IF CONTACT IS MADE WITH THE
ANTENNA WHEN TRANSMITTING.
Verify that the POWER ON/OFF switch on the amplifier-power
supply is set to OFF. If necessary, set the switch to OFF.
Verify that the NVIS antenna adapter is properly installed
in TM 11-2300-476-14&P. If necessary, install the adapter
in the mast base.
Open the antenna pack, and remove the top mast assembly
(see Figure 14).
Install the top mast assembly in the adapted whip mast base
on the vehicle, and uncoil the antenna elements.
Verify
that the antenna elements are stretched along the direction
in which they leave the top housing and are not shorted to
each other or to the mast.
If necessary, adjust the
direction of the elements.
Measure the anchor positions, using the sleeve
cable
markers as guides, and install the anchors as shown.
Before connecting the mast sections, wipe the unpainted
surfaces clean of mud or dirt to provide good electrical
contact.
