Lesson 2
EVALUATE OPERATION OF AN/PRC-104(A) AND
AN/GRC-213 RADIO SETS
OBJECTIVE
Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to evaluate the operation
of the AN/GRC-213 and AN/PRC-104(A) radio sets by using the equipment
performance check (EPC).
REFERENCES
This lesson is based on TM 11-5820-923-12 and other material approved for US
Army instruction.
However, development and progress render the text
continually subject to change. Therefore, base your examination answers on
material presented in this lesson rather than on individual or unit
experience.

INTRODUCTION.
As an organizational maintenance person, you must be
able to determine if a real problem exists in the radio set AN/GRC-213 (or
you may have to explain to an operator his error in procedures).
The
operator should be able to perform an EPC, but you must be able to verify a
problem reported by the operator.
For the organizational maintenance
person, this consists of three parts.
First, you must verify that the
TM 11-2300-476-14&P. Second, you must verify that the AN/GRC-213 has been
properly mounted on the installation kit and that proper connections were
made (see Figure 19).
The last part is to actually perform the EPC
a. To perform initial adjustment, turn the POWER switch on the AM-7152
to OFF.
b. Verify that the electrical equipment mount is securely fastened to
the vehicle, that all cables are securely fastened at each end, that
connections are not corroded, and that the insulation is in good condition.
Verify that the grounds are securely connected to both the antenna and the
mount.
The mounting
instructions for this lesson will be for the MK-2447/GRC-213 installation
kit. If you use equipment installed in other vehicles, refer to TM 11-2300-
476-14&P (see the installation instructions for installation kit MK-
2447/GRC-213).
c. Verify that the AN/GRC-213 radio set is installed on its mount in
accordance with the instructions in Lesson 1. Figure 20 contains the layout
for installation in the AN/PRC-104(A) configuration.
To use the AN/PRC-
104(A) contained in the AN/GRC-213 in the PRC configuration, battery power
must be furnished by the battery packs provided in the transport case. The
instructions included here for the AN/GRC-213, except for those specifically
concerning the power circuits, antennas and switching unit SA-2365/GRC-213,
and AN/VIC-1, generally apply to the AN/PRC-104(A). The AN/PRC-104(A) radio
set uses RT-1209/URC and AM-6874 amplifier-coupler, which are major
components of both units. A complete AN/PRC-104(A) is supplied as a part of
any issue of the AN/GRC-213. (See Figure 21.)
